Night Life - Great Southern Bioblitz Launch Event

Frogs, Bats and Moths, oh my! Learn about the creatures that come to life while you are sleeping at this free, family-friendly event.
- Celebrate with us the launch of Lithgow's first participation in the Great Southern Bioblitz, and learn how you can take part.
- Join a walks with experts to search for frogs and bats.
- Learn how you can help wombats.
- Kids activities.
- Meet some moths.
- Free dinner provided (an Italian feast from Frankie's).
This is a free event however registration is essential, and spaces are limited. Please click on 'get tickets' to register for catering purposes.
Here is an overview of the schedule for the night:
7.00 | Arrivals, Welcome, Introduction to event and the Great Southern Bioblitz |
7.15 | Dinner served. |
7.45 | Introduction to iNaturalist for those who want it |
8.00-8.30 | Walk and Talks: Frogs with Steve Fleischmann from Lithgow Oberon Landcare Bats with Andrew Lothian from from Biodiversity Monitoring Services |
8.45-9.15 | Walk and Talks round 2 (join the one you missed in round 1!) |
9.30 | Event Close |
Throughout the night in the hall there will be information displays, including a Kanimbla Wombats stall, with kids colouring-in, and the chance to ask all your wombat questions. From dark there will be a moth-attracting light set up, and participants can get involved in photographing and learning about the moths we find.
Children are welcome, but all children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. All kids will receive a free wombat colouring in book.
Please bring a torch and wear appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear. In the case of light rain, this event will go ahead as planned. If heavy rain or other weather conditions are unsuitable for outdoor activities, the event will proceed, with indoor expert presentations and information displays instead of outdoor activities.
