A NIGHT OF JAZZ with HARRY JAMES ANGUS

Presented in partnership with the University of Adelaide.

Join Harry James Angus and the top graduating jazz musicians from the Elder Conservatorium of Music for a night of unforgettable performances.

Harry James Angus, the firebrand trumpet-playing vocalist from The Cat Empire, is known both for his thrilling live performances and for his constant musical re-invention.

His work takes the raw intensity, chaos and exploratory power that has helped make The Cat Empire such an incandescent live experience, but redirects it towards a darker, more weirdly beautiful universe. A universe inspired by artists like Nina Simone, Van Morrison, Antony and The Johnsons and John Coltrane.

Be entranced by Harry’s smooth, smoky vocals and delighted by his enigmatic presence and unique way with words, as he weaves stories little and large for his audience.

Do not miss this very special evening at the Elder Hall.

This event includes the presentation of the 2021 Helpmann Academy Jazz Awards.

We are the Helpmann Academy – the only organisation of its kind in Australia.

Since 1994 we have been working to uplift and support South Australia’s emerging creatives to build and sustain their careers.

We are a unique collaborative partnership, unifying the skills and resources of our state’s three universities to support graduates as they commence their creative careers.

We are here to foster links between South Australia’s higher education institutions, the arts, and the community, which in turn enriches our broader society and ensures that the next generation of creative practitioners not only survive, but they thrive.

The Helpmann Academy acknowledges that we are on Kaurna Country, its sovereignty never ceded. We acknowledge the Kaurna people as the custodians of the Adelaide Plains and as the first and enduring storytellers of this land.
