Event description

Friday nights are for sewing and hangs...

Mixing things up. Sometimes I just like to hang out with lovely people and do creative things. How bout you?

End of the week is also a great time for turning off and getting your project on.

If you've been thinking about a specific project, dusting off the machine for some practice, mending and alterations, or just giving yourself the excuse of a dedicated sewing time, this is your time.

Join me in the big room, where we can spread out, and take up some space! This is a chance to get some uninterrupted sewing hours in, and be amongst others like minded humans working on their own projects. I'm on hand for assistance, for questions or things you may need a bit of help to nut out. This is the beginning of hopefully a regular run of classes, for those who have a sewing machine to bring along, and are looking for that bit of dedicated time out for yourself to start a project, brush up on machine skills, revisit an unfinished project, or just create in the company of others.

I do have access to some machines, but as there are a limited number and I need assistance moving them over,  so you will need to let me know prior if you want to use them. I will provide the space, cheerleading, and inspiration, and you bring your own project and supplies. I will have general sewing supplies on hand, but please contact me if you may need assistance with equipment. It would be great to bring pins, scissors and unpicks if you have them. If not, no dramas, I have spare!

The class will be held at BRUDI (previously known as the Brunswick Business Incubator, part of the Brunswick Design District) It will be held in the building adjacent to my studio, which allows for more space to spread out. Student accessibility and inclusivity is important to me, so please discuss if there are special needs. The space is upstairs, but the building has just been renovated to include a lift, so it is accessible via lift and stairs. Also, air conditioning -yeay!!

l'll have tea and basic coffee available, and some snacks for the day. BYO dinner or snack is recommended, although there is a food truck at Co Conspirators I cannot say whether this is a good or bad choice. I am yet to test. Within walking are cafes on Victoria street, and Sydney road is just a minute from them. We have a fridge and microwave in the adjoining kitchen.

I'm developing these classes to make people feel confident and a chance to hang with fabulous people. The last few years have been hectic, and it's not always easy to find space and time for ourselves. There are many great sewing rules to learn, but just as important is how people feel while they're learning. Creativeness is my form of time out, and I know how good it is for mental health. Sewing is what I do best, so I'd love to be able to make these opportunities to share my knowledge, assistance, and create an environment where awesome individuals can come together and feel inspired. Who knows, it may not be just for sewing. But considering we have the space, I'd love to do this!!
