    Event description

Join us next Sunday evening for a night of nocturnal insect surveys at our Kilsyth Ave site as part of the Great Southern BioBlitz!

Surveys will be taking place from 7:30pm-9pm

We’re super excited to be working alongside the two incredible scientists, Pip Bell and Sally Fuik-Burgemeestre.

Pip Bell is a third year Ph.D. student at the University of Melbourne, her research in urban ecology is aimed towards making our cities more liveable for both nature and people. She is currently investigating the effectiveness of nature strips for insect conservation by planting habitat gardens on nature strips in Melbourne’s north. She hopes to find ecological value in these novel green spaces, and encourage others to take advantage of urban spaces for conservation. Graciously Pip will be sharing her knowledge in entomology with us to identify which moths and other creepy crawlies are hidden in our project site.

Sally is a student and academic at Deakin University where she completed her honours in landscape ecology and its role in habitat connectivity. These days you can find her escaping the lab to conduct research on the adorable native Broad-toothed rat. We are so grateful to have her lead us on a spotlight tour around Gardiner's creek to see what we can find behind the shadows.

Please bring headtorch as it will be dark and wear sturdy shoes.

We also highly recommend having iNaturalist downloaded and an account ready to go because we’re expecting to find heaps of cool data to add to the Greater BioBlitz 2024!! See you all there 🌝🐜🐌🌿
