Event description
Come celebrate Dr. Xi Liu's first zine release with friends at The Bearded Tit on October 19th!
With the first printing of Noodles & Neurosis selling out within 6 months of release we've decided to do a launch event for our second printing & YOU are invited!!
A new printing of Noodles & Neurosis will be available for purchase throughout the night. We'll have readings from guest readers Oliver Vincent Reyes & Cherry Zheng, each reading their own works. Xi will read something of theirs, then we'll end our night with a conversation with Xi and Annie from Takeon Publishing discussing the processes behind writing about identity, mental health and intergenerational resilience.
Hosted by the wonderful Mami Maitai, the event will run from 7pm to 9pm and entry is FREE - if you'd like to preorder a copy of Noodles & Neurosis to pick up on the night those will be $15 each.
Those details again? Thursday Oct 19 at The Bearded Tit, 7 to 9pm - we'll see you there!

Noodles & Neurosis is the first collected writings by Dr. Xi Liu, Clinical Psychologist. It features a nonfiction interview in conversation with UK based Clinical Psychologist Susan Simpson on the topic of Unrelenting Standards within the Schema Therapy framework. There's a poem on the delicate balance maintained with immigrant parents with their own unresolved trauma. Wrapping it all up is a short story about queer first love and heartbreak. It's plenty of bang for your buck as nonfiction, fiction and poetry worlds all collide.
Oliver Vincent Reyes has been working as an emerging community curator since 2021. Oliver has a background in illustration, graphic design and has been actively seeking collaborative partnerships dedicated to serving the intersections of immigrant, refugee and LGBTQIA+ communities, by connecting artists to community venues and events. In 2024, he plans to release his first illustrated comic with Takeon Publishing that speaks to the Latinx experience in Australia.
Cherry Zheng completed her Honours thesis in Asian Studies at the Australian National University. You might find her flying around a pole studio, fighting sleep paralysis demons, or eating chocolate around a pile of (unread) books. She has previously been published in Overland.
