Noongar Language Afterschool - Term 1
Event description
Our favourite Dylans are back to bring community another moorditj term of Noongar Language lessons at the Vic Park Community Centre. YAY!!!!
Over 8 weeks, kids and their carers will be immersed in the rich world of Noongar culture, learning language and history through engaging games, music, art activities, story telling and more.
These FREE lessons, which have been running at VPCC for the past 2 years, offer a special environment for folk of all backgrounds to connect in a friendly, energetic, and hands on learning space. Parents and carers are welcomed to join into the classes to make the most of this wonderful opportunity to learn, have fun, and deepen cultural knowledge WITH your kids.
This term will also include a special session where participants can contribute to the design of a new mural artwork at VPCC....stay tuned for more details!
We welcome both new and familiar faces, so spread the word and we'll see you on Thursdays!
About the teachers
Dylan Collard (of Kalyakoorl) is a proud Wadjak Balardong Noongar man - local Vic Park resident, primary school teacher, and language expert. These sessions are run with the help of Dylan Shillito (of Ngalak Nidja), a proud Wadjak Balardong Noongar man, performer, musician and artist.
The Dylans have been facilitating these free Noongar language lessons for kids at VPCC for the past 2 years, along with numerous programs at schools and organisations across Perth.

Thursdays, 4.00pm to 5.00pm
Term 1: 17th Feb - 10th April (starting week 2)

Participation
Best suited to primary school aged kids
Option for parents to 'drop and go' or stay and join in
(No need for parents to book a ticket)
*Please note that some of the sessions will be photographed in order to record the moment and share with our community in the future - you will have the option to opt out.
Access
Vic Park Community Centre has step free access, a disabled toilet with baby change, access to outdoor space and gender neutral toilets.
