Norkama Project Audit

Event description

About the Norkama Project

It was all started in 2016 by Skye from Gillian Group in partnership with Sarama Resources, with the belief that every child deserves an education, the right to read and write, the chance to build a better future. Seeing children living in impoverished communities and attend school without basic writing and reading materials seems so unnecessary when you consider the waste in Australia and what we could be recycling, giving and donating from our own homes, businesses and schools.

For the past 2 years Rotary Elizabeth Quay has been helping to collect stationery, sporting equipment and other supplies. Finally the day has come to ship the containers full of life-changing gear to over 5,000 kids in the heart of Burkina Faso in West Africa.

About the Audit Event

There's just one job left to do, an audit of the shipping container contents so that it will pass the border customs checks. You can help by registering to attend on Saturday 22 January 2022, starting at 10:30am until 2:30pm or earlier if we finish up.

Lunch is provided and there will be vegetarian options.

Volunteer tasks may include:

  • Unwrapping and rewrapping the packing cartons
  • Unpacking and repacking the contents of cartons
  • Counting the contents of cartons
  • Data entry to record contents into the Customs spreadsheet

Volunteers are encouraged to wear steel-cap boots to the event, as it is held in the Macknsons warehouse (generous long-term sponsor of the project). If you don't have steel-cap boots, please wear enclosed leather shoes or other heavy-duty enclosed foot-wear.
