                   NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIIPS & VETERAN’S FOIL 2023                                                                        

    Fencing New Zealand and Fencing North invite you to attend the above national ranking competition  
                                             Saturday July 15 – Sunday July 16, 2023

        At  Mount Albert Grammar School, Alberton Avenue, Mount Albert, Auckland 1025

                                               

    Eligibility

    To fence in the senior championship events fencers must be 13 years or older on 1st January 2023.  (Fencing NZ Minimum Age Policy). If you are unsure whether the event is appropriate for you/your child, please check with your coach.

    Veteran Fencers must be 40+ years old on 1st January 2023.

    New Zealand participants must be affiliated members of Fencing New Zealand for 2023.

    International fencers must have a current affiliation to their National Fencing Organisation.

    Affiliations of all competitors (National and international) will be checked at time of entry.

    Competition Format

    North Island Open Championship events: One round of poules (bouts to five points) followed by direct elimination (bouts to 15 points).  

    Veteran’s Foil Championship events: One round of poules (bouts to five points) followed by direct elimination (bouts to 10 points).  

    Separate events will be held for each gender, unless a minimum of four participants in a gender is not achieved, in which case a mixed event will be fenced.

    Awards:    Gold, Silver and two Bronze medals will be awarded in each event.

    Registrations

    Standard Registration closes on July 9th at 11.55pm.  Late entries close on July 13th at 11.55pm.  After this date entry will be at the discretion of the DT and Referees representative.

    Entry Fees:

     North Island Open Championships:  $70.00 per entry for each weapon 

    Veteran’s Foil Championships:           $60.00 per entry 

    Late Entries, received after 11.55pm on July 9th will attract an additional fee of $50.00

    Entry fees are payable via the entry system (in this case Humanitix)

    Entries will be updated and posted to Fencing Time Live Daily.    PARTICIPANTS

    Multiple Discipline Entry: if you are entered in multiple weapons and your next event starts prior to completion of the first, you will be scratched from the second event and are expected to continue to compete in the first event. No refund will be provided.

    Non combativity:    FIE rule t.1214 non-combativity will be implemented at this competition.

    FIE Rule t.122: is suspended and will be as follows:  Fencers will be required to salute each other in way of acknowledging their opponent and the referee.

    Drug Free Sport: by participating in this event, you agree that you have been warned of the potential to be selected for anti-doping testing and you will comply with anti-doping testing if required to do so.  The testing process and your rights and responsibilities as an athlete are outlined on the Drug Free Sport NZ website here.   https://drugfreesport.org.nz/<... 

    Results will be posted to FencingTimeLive. QR Codes will be displayed within the venue.

    Video Refereeing

    Video referees will be used for the final bout of each event, and additionally  if resources allow, for the semifinals of each event. In every case, it will be used at the discretion of the Head Referee and D.T.  Video footage will be used solely to review decisions and will not be released post competition.

    Podium Protocol:  Fencers must wear either their club jacket, regional or FeNZ tracksuit jacket, breeches or tracksuit pants, fencing socks and shoes while on the podium. No hats, sunglasses or other casual attire are to be worn on the podium during the presentation.

    Minimum Equipment Standards 

    Any rules coming into force in the 2022-2023 season will not be applied.

    All clothing must be in a good state of repair.

    Mask requirements FeNZ Policy

    Weapons Control:

    Weapons, wires, masks, gloves, and conductive jackets (lames) will all be subject to a weapons control.

    Weapons Control will be open at the venue on Friday evening (Time TBA)and for 1 hour prior to each event, when priority will be given to out of town fencers.  Local fencers are expected to attend weapons control on Friday evening if possible.

    Control Marks: It is the responsibility of the fencer to ensure all relevant equipment is correctly marked during the weapons check process, and that the correct marks are still present at the piste.
