North Island and Veterans Foil Championships 2026
Welcome to the registration page for the North Island Championships 2026 to be held at Waitakere Netball Centre, Te Pai Place, Henderson, on the weekend of Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th April 2026.
ELIGIBILITY
Senior/Open Events - fencers must 13 years old on the day of competition ( Fencing NZ Minimum Age Policy).
(For fencers UNDER 18 a parent or guardian must endorse the registration agreement)
Veteran Foil Events - fencers must be 40 years or older on 31st December 2025.

REGISTRATION
Standard registrations - Available until Monday 6th April at 23:55h
SENIOR events $80.00 + booking & cc fees.
VETERANS events $70.00 + booking & cc fees.
Late registrations - will incur a late entry fee of $50.00 + fees
Last entry is on Thursday 9th .April 2026 at 20:00h
Late entries are subject to availability and at the discretion of the DT.
Spectators and Officials: Registration is free via the booking page with no booking charges.
Entry fees are payable via the entry system

Multiple Discipline Entries: If you are entered in multiple events and your next event starts prior to your completion of the first, you will be scratched from the starting event and are expected to continue to compete in the first event.

ENTRY CONDITIONS
FENCERS UNDER 14 YEARS OLD MUST ALWAYS BE WITH A PARENT OR GUARDIAN.
By registering for this event, you agree to the following conditions;
- I am entering the competition at my own risk and agree to abide by the rules of fencing as set out by the FIE, Fencing New Zealand and any directions given by the organisers relating to the running of the tournament (for fencers UNDER 18 a parent or guardian must endorse the registration agreement)
- I agree to abide by the FeNZ Fencers Code of Conduct and Health & Safety Policy and agree to withdraw from the competition if I am feeling unwell on the day. (see Resources on FeNZ website.
Affiliation/Membership
This is a National tournament with ranking points. You must be affiliated with Fencing New Zealand as a Full Competitive Member to compete. Affiliation status for 2026 will be checked at time of entry.

PLEASE NOTE: You will not be able to view the FeNZ affiliation number issued to you via Sporty, but as DT I can access this number via the FeNZ admin portal .

COMPETITION FORMAT
North Island Championship events: One round of poules (bouts to five points) followed by direct elimination (bouts to 15 points).
Veteran Championship events: One round of poules (bouts to five points) followed by direct elimination (bouts to 10 points).
Events will be fenced as separate genders unless a minimum of six participants in a gender is not achieved, in which case a mixed event will be fenced.
Awards:
Gold, Silver and two Bronze medals will be awarded in each event.
EQUIPMENT STANDARDS

Epées, Foils and Sabres, wires, masks, gloves, and conductive jackets (lamés) will all be subject to equipment control. All clothing must be in a good state of repair.
Torso: Minimum of 1150N protection. This can be made up of either a 350N Jacket with an 800N plastron or an 800N Jacket and a 350N plastron,
Breeches: 350N (CEN 1)
Masks: All masks must fit well and be in good condition. The elastic strap shall be in good working order with elasticity and able to return to its original position after stretching without any deformation.
The hook and loop securing the elastic shall be capable of retaining the elasticity and resisting removal.
Leon Paul X-Change Masks must have a secondary strap or bar.
Curly mask wires are not permitted
Gloves: Must be in good condition and have no hole for body wires. 800N gloves are required for Sabre.
Chest Protector: Compulsory for Women’s events. Optional for Men.
FOIL Specific: Chest Protectors – FIE technical rule rule m25.4.c requiring an over cover has been implemented at Fencing New Zealand Competitions since 1st July 2025. The referees will check for this at the piste. Lame Bibs are required.
FIE blades are required with either Bayonet or 2-pin body wires. FIE no.3 size blades are acceptable
EPÉE Specific: FIE blades are required.
Leon Paul SR-71 blades date stamped 08-2012 to 06-2015 will not be accepted.
Leon Paul V blades dated 08-2012 to 06-2015 without a unique serial number will not be accepted.

SABRE Specific: FIE blades S2000 or later are required.
MARAGING SABRE BLADES Are NOT required for New Zealand competitions in 2026, but if fencers wish to use Maraging blades they will be accepted.
EQUIPMENT CHECK
Date; Friday evening 10th April 2026
Venue: Waitakere Netball Centre, Te Pai Place, Henderson
Time: 6:30 - 8:30pm
Equipment check will be open one hour before the registration time for each event. Priority will be given to out-of-town fencers. Fencing North fencers are encouraged to undertake equipment check on Friday night and help with venue setup.
Control marks: It is the fencer’s responsibility to ensure that all equipment goes through equipment control and that the control marks are applied. It is also the fencer’s responsibility to ensure that control marks are still present every time they go to the piste.
Piste Allocations and Results: Live results will be posted to FencingTimeLive.com and QR codes containing the link will be posted at the venue.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Video Refereeing: Will occur for Finals at the discretion of the DT
FIE Rule t.124: Non-Combativity will be implemented at this competition.
FIE Rule t.122: Fencers will be required to salute each other by way of acknowledging their opponent and the referee.
Drug Free Sport: by participating in this event, you agree that you have been warned of the potential to be selected for anti-doping testing and you will comply with anti-doping testing if required to do so. An athlete refusing anti-doping testing will be automatically disqualified from the event and procedures will be instigated as oulined in the current Sports Ant-Doping Rules from the New Zealand Sports Integrity Commission.
Results: will be posted to FencingTimeLive. QR Codes will be displayed within the venue.
Podium Protocol: All Fencers must wear a country, club, regional or FeNZ Jacket and either breeches or tracksuit pants together with Fencing Socks and Shoes while on the podium. No hats, sunglasses or other casual attire are to be worn on the podium during the presentation.

Food: Hot and cold food & drinks, snacks and sports drinks will be available at the venue
Photography:
Photography is allowed at all Fencing North and National competitions. The competition venue is considered a public space.
Non public spaces with full respect of privacy are the changing rooms and the toilets. No photography is allowed in there.
Please do not change in public spaces. If you do, you waive your right to privacy.
Pictures taken at the event can be published on social media, the internet and printed media by Fencing North. This includes spectators and officials.
