North Star Chess - 2023 State Finals (Secondary)

North Star Chess Secondary State Final Tournament at St Oliver Plunkett Primary School on 9th October 2023.

The event will run from approximately 9:00am to 2:30pm. Only Secondary Students who have qualified are invited to compete. 

Given the small number of AGS students attending; parents will need to drop off and collect thier child from the venue if they wish to participate. An AGS staff member will attend on the day to supervise. 

Students are to wear summer school uniform on the day. Each student will need to bring all food and drink for the day including their lunch, snacks, and a water bottle.

The cost will be $25 per student (plus booking fees).

If your child has an instrumental lesson booked on 9th October - please contact Christine Newell on CNE@ags.vic.edu.au to reschedule as soon as possible.

Format of the tournament as follows:

• Individual based tournament.
• Every student plays 7 games against players of similar skill, regardless of how many games they win or lose (Swiss pairing method).
• Students experience proper tournament rules.
• Gold/Silver/Bronze medals awarded to various grade/year level categories.
• "Star of the tournament" trophy for top scorer of the day.
• Table prizes/giveaways.
