Northern Beaches H5 bird flu | Community information session
Description
Following recent H5 bird flu detections in the region, the Department Primary Industry and Regional Development (NSW DPIRD), in partnership with Northern Beaches Council (NBC), will host a public information session in Warriewood to provide the community with accurate, timely information about the disease, the response underway and how individuals can help reduce the risk of spread.
The session will bring together representatives from NSW DPIRD, NSW Health, National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and Local Land Services (LLS) to provide information, answer questions and address community concerns on H5 bird flu.
Date: 30 September 2026
Time: 6 pm to 7:30 pm
Venue: Warriewood Community Centre, 2/4 Jacksons Rd, Warriewood.

- What is bird flu and how does it affect NSW?
Bird flu (avian influenza) is a viral disease that primarily affects birds. Some strains can also infect other animals, including mammals. Bird flu can affect wild birds, poultry and captive birds.
H5 bird flu (high pathogenicity H5N1 avian influenza) has now been detected in wild birds in NSW.
No detections are recorded in commercial poultry flocks, captive birds or livestock in NSW. The risk to human health remains low.
If you find sick or dead birds or wildlife including marine species:
Avoid contact.
Record what you see and the location.
Report it immediately.
Report online or by calling the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline: 1800 675 888.

Do not touch sick or dead birds or wildlife. Avoid contact, keep people and pets away, record the location and report what you have found.
