Fencing North Secondary Schools Championships 2026

Welcome to the registration page for the Fencing North Secondary Schools Championships to be held at Waitakere Netball Centre, Te Pai Place, Henderson, on Sunday August 9th 2026.

Eligibility

You must be over 13 years old on the day of competition, and normally be attending school at Y9 level or above.

(in special circumstances, and by agreement between a coach and the DT, fencers younger than 13 may be allowed to enter some of our Regional competitions)

Registration

Standard registrations - $30.00 + booking & cc fees. Close on Sunday August 2nd at 11.55pm

Late registrations - $50 + booking & cc fees.

Last entry is 23.55h on Thursday August 6th 2026

Late entries are subject to availability and at the discretion of the DT.

Spectators and Officials: Registration is free with no booking charges via the booking page.

‘Out of Town’ Entries

This applies to any fencer from the FENCING NORTH REGION who does not reside in Auckland.
If you are a Fencing North member who lives outside of the metropolitan Auckland area, please contact the organiser about a discount.

FENCERS UNDER 14 YEARS OLD MUST ALWAYS BE WITH A PARENT OR GUARDIAN.

ENTRY CONDITIONS

By registering for this event, you agree to the following conditions;

- I am entering the competition at my own risk and agree to abide by the rules of fencing as set out by the FIE, Fencing New Zealand and any directions given by the organisers relating to the running of the tournament (for fencers UNDER 18 a parent or guardian must endorse the registration agreement)

- I agree to abide by the FeNZ Fencers Code of Conduct and Health & Safety Policy and agree to withdraw from the competition if I am feeling unwell on the day. (see Resources on FeNZ website)

Affiliation/Membership

You must be registered with Fencing New Zealand as a full competitive member to compete.

PLEASE NOTE: You will not be able to view the FeNZ membership number issued to you via Sporty, but as DT I can access this number via the FeNZ admin portal . You can enter the receipt no. (Begins with SP) issued by Sporty instead.

We will not be doing a full gear check but weights and gauges will be employed at the piste (Foil & Epée)

MORNING FENCERS - Please arrive in plenty of time for check-in/registration and then help to set up the stadium.

AFTERNOON FENCERS - Please stay and help with equipment pack-down as required

7:45 - 8:00 am Men’s Epée Registration

7:45 - 8:00 am Women’s Foil Registration

7:45 - 8:00 am Men’s and Women’s Sabre Registration

11.30-11.45 am Men’s Foil Registration

11.45 -12.00pm Women’s Epée Registration

NOTE: A detailed timetable will be published and communicated during the week before the competition when entry numbers are confirmed.

EQUIPMENT STANDARDS

All clothing must be in a good state of repair.

We will not be doing a full gear check before this competition BUT for Foil and Epée events referees will be employing Weights and Gauges to check Weapons at the piste.

Full gear check will be in place the NZ National Secondary School Championships in August. Equipment standards for this competition are posted further down the page.

Gear Exceptions specific to the Regional Age Group/Secondary Schools Tournaments;

BREECHES: 350N or above are preferred (especially for Epee where legs are a target area) and Fencing North will have a small amount of clothing to loan on the day. Sturdy track pants can be allowed, so long as no loose pockets but a waiver must be signed at the front desk. (Thin leggings/skins are not acceptable)

SOCKS: Thick knee-length socks must be worn.

BLADES: FIE blades not compulsory for this competition.

MASKS: All masks must fit well and be in good condition. The elastic strap must be in good working order with elasticity and able to return to its original position after stretching without any deformation.

The hook and loop securing the elastic shall be capable of retaining the elasticity and resisting removal.

Leon Paul X-Change Masks must have a secondary strap or bar.

The standards outlined below are those required for the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP tournaments – provided here to enable our fencers time to prepare.

For the Nationals please ensure that your equipment conforms to the following standards:

Torso: Minimum of 1150N protection. This can be made up of either a 350N Jacket with an 800N plastron or an 800N Jacket and a 350N plastron,

Breeches: 350N (CEN 1) or above

Masks: All masks must fit well and be in good condition. The elastic strap shall be in good working order with elasticity and able to return to its original position after stretching without any deformation.

Gloves: Must be in good condition and have no hole for body wires. 800N gloves are required for Sabre.

Chest Protector: Compulsory for Women’s events. Optional for Men.

Foil Specific: Chest Protectors – FIE technical rule rule m25.4.c requiring an over cover has been implemented at Fencing New Zealand Competitions since 1st July 2025. The referees will check for this at the piste. Lame Bibs are required. Curly mask wires are not permitted.

FIE blades are required with either Bayonet or 2-pin body wires. FIE no.3 size blades are acceptable

Épée Specific: FIE blades are required.

Leon Paul SR-71 blades date stamped 08-2012 to 06-2015 will not be accepted.

Leon Paul V blades dated 08-2012 to 06-2015 without a unique serial number will not be accepted.

Sabre Specific: FIE blades S2000 or later are required.

Curly mask wires are not permitted

MARAGING SABRE BLADES Are NOT required for New Zealand competitions in 2026, but if fencers wish to use Maraging blades they will be accepted.

PODIUM PROTOCOL/DRESS

All Fencers must wear a School or Club Tracksuit Jacket or official school top and either tracksuit pants or Breeches together with Fencing Socks and Shoes while on the podium. No hats, sunglasses or other casual attire are to be worn on the podium during the presentation.

Photography and Publication

Photography is permitted at all Fencing New Zealand competitions, as the competition venue is a public place.

Photography is strictly prohibited in non-public areas such as changing rooms and toilets.
Participants should refrain from changing in public spaces as doing so forfeits the right to privacy.

Fencing North and Fencing New Zealand reserve the right to publish photos taken at the competition on social media, the internet and printed media. This includes competitors, spectators and officials.

Affiliation/Membership of Fencing Near Zealand

To compete in FeNZ competitions you must have a paid membership with Fencing New Zealand as a FULL COMPETITIVE MEMBER. The FeNZ membership starts on 01/JAN and lasts a calendar year. Please always sign up with the same name, to help us accredit ranking points.

FeNZ affiliation fees are additional to the competition entry.
