Northern U15 & U17 Championships 2025

Welcome to the registration page for the 2025 Fencing North U15 and U17 age banded competitions!
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday 16th March at the Netball Waitakere Centre, Te Pai Place, Henderson.
We’re holding these age banded competitions in March again this year as the National U15 and U17 Championships will be held in Wellington over Easter Weekend.
Eligibility
To enter the U15 competitions you must be 11 years old but under 15 on 1st January 2025
To enter the U17 (cadet) competitions you must be 11 years old but under 17 on 1st January 2025
The competitions are suitable for experienced and more recent fencers - if you aren’t sure if you’re ready for this competition please talk with your coach.
Because these are our regional age banded championships, you will be able to earn points towards a national ranking and we will be awarding medals to the top four in each event.🥇🥈🥉🥉

STANDARD REGISTRATION ends at 23.55h on Sunday 9th March and costs $30.00 plus booking and cc fees.
Late entry is $50.00 plus booking and cc fees. Late entries are subject to availability and at the discretion of the DT. Cut off is the Thursday before the competition (March 13th at 23.55h)
‘Out of Town’ Entries
This applies to any fencer FROM THE FENCING NORTH REGION who does not reside in Auckland.
If you are a Fencing North member who lives outside of the metropolitan Auckland area, please contact the organiser regarding a discount.
ENTRY CONDITIONS
By registering for this event, you agree to the following conditions;
- I am entering the competition at my own risk and agree to abide by the rules of fencing as set out by the FIE, Fencing New Zealand and any directions given by the organisers relating to the running of the tournament (for fencers UNDER 18 a parent or guardian must endorse the registration agreement)
- I agree to abide by the FeNZ Fencers Code of Conduct and Health & Safety Policy and agree to withdraw from the competition if I am feeling unwell on the day. (see Resources on FeNZ website.

NOTE: A detailed timetable will be published and communicated during the week before the competition when we have an idea of entry numbers.

Multiple Weapon entries
Please contact us first if you are wanting to enter multiple weapons in an age category - this is a busy one-day competition and we are running a full range of events in two age bands so may not be able to offer this opportunity.

Affiliation/Membership of Fencing New Sealand
To compete in Fencing North competitions you MUST be affiliated with Fencing New Zealand as a FULL COMPETITIVE MEMBER before you enrol for the competition.
The FeNZ membership starts on 01/JAN and lasts a calendar year. Please always sign up with the same name and your unique Registration No. to help us accredit ranking points.
FeNZ affiliation fees are additional to the competition entry.

EQUIPMENT STANDARDS
All clothing must be in a good state of repair.
We will not be doing a full gear check before this competition BUT for Foil and Epée events referees will be employing Weights and Gauges to check Weapons at the piste.
Full gear check will be in place the NZ National U15 and U17 Championships in April. Equipment standards for this competition are posted further down the page.
Piste Allocations and Results: Live results will be posted to FencingTimeLive.com and QR codes containing the link will be posted at the venue.
PODIUM PROTOCOL: All Fencers must wear a School or Club Tracksuit Jacket or official school top and either tracksuit pants or Breeches together with Fencing Socks and Shoes while on the podium. No hats, sunglasses or other casual attire are to be worn on the podium during the presentation.
FOOD: Fencers from Tuatahi Fencing Club will be running a food stall and providing hot and cold drinks, food and snacks - more details will be sent out later.
EQUIPMENT STANDARDS
Gear Exceptions specific to the Regional Secondary Schools Tournaments
BREECHES: 350N or above are preferred (especially for Epee where legs are a target area) and Fencing North will have a small amount of clothing to loan on the day. Sturdy track pants can be allowed, so long as no loose pockets but a waiver must be signed. (Thin leggings/skins are not acceptable)
SOCKS: Thick knee-length socks must be worn.
BLADES: FIE blades not compulsory for this competition.
The standards outlined below are those required for the National Championship tournaments and are provided to enable our fencers time to prepare.
For the Nationals please ensure that your equipment conforms to the following standards:
Torso: | Minimum of 1150N protection. This can be made up of either a 350N Jacket with an 800N plastron or an 800N Jacket and a 350N plastron, | |
Breeches: | 350N (CEN 1) | |
Masks: | All masks must fit well and be in good condition. The elastic strap shall be in good working order with elasticity and able to return to its original position after stretching without any deformation. | |
Gloves: | Must be in good condition and have no hole for body wires. 800N gloves are required for Sabre. | |
Chest Protector: | Compulsory for Women’s events. Optional for Men. | |
Foil Specific: | Lame Bibs are required. Curly mask wires are not permitted. | |
Épée Specific: | FIE blades are required. | |
Sabre Specific: | FIE blades S2000 or later are required. |
