Event description

Wild Beings and Walk The Land team up with Leafy Adventures in this mega animal processing and bushcraft weekend adventure

Come and reconnect with the cycles of life, death, and the rebirth of ancient knowledge.

Processing animal bodies is an ancient artform practiced by all cultures around the world for countless generations. Reconnecting with the life/death cycles in a mindful way is a powerful channel for reviving our ancestral lineages, and our connection to the earth.

Learning how to process the bodies of introduced animals that we have hunted is also one of the most practical ways that we can both reduce our participation in industrial agriculture, as well as reducing the strain that those invasive species can put on the environment.

And importantly, reconnecting with these primal skills is nourishing, invigorating, and fun!

This weekend event will start 3pm Friday 8th Sept and end 4pm Sunday 10th Sept.

The first day of this adventure will feature three workshops –

  1. Skinning of an animal
  2. Working with the most nutritious bits (the insides)
  3. Smokehouse construction

This will be followed by a fire side feast, with campfire stories and craft.

Saturday we will be up early for a learning-packed day. We will learning:

1. Whole animal butchery

2. meat preparation

3. Meat preservation

There will also be nature connection activities for anyone who does not wish to take part in any of the teachings.

Sunday we will complete the tanning, and have a wrap up and Q&A for the facilitators, finishing off with a breathwork session led by local breathwork expert Damian Matthews.

Although this workshop is about meat, of course there’s no pressure to consume anything you don’t wish to. You are fully at choice at all times.

The workshop will go ahead in all types of weather, including rain, so please come prepared, and bring any food, water, tents, warms clothes, and any other camping supplies that you’ll need for the weekend.

If you’ve looking for an opportunity to reconnect with yourselves and each other and rejoice in the depth of your wildness, then come and enjoy!

This is a family friendly event, and children of all ages are welcome with supervising parents/caregivers. Samantha from Walk the Land will be providing child-centred activities throughout the weekend that are age-appropriate equivalents of what the adults with be doing.

This workshop will be taking place on the beautiful land of the Wurundjeri Woi Werrung people and this, like all land in Australia, was never ceded. 10% of all revenue from this event will be paid to Pay the Rent. We also offer one ticket free of charge to any person who identifies as Indigenous, please be in touch to claim this place.

Please get in touch if you have any questions about this event. While you’re here, please check out the other events that we have on this site.

We look forward to welcoming you on the land and learning together!
