Let’s face it, internal emails are now as outdated as paper. They get lost, they’re not secure, they can be hard to find. Getting everyone on the same page - anywhere, anytime - is so much easier when committees can keep in contact from one central, digital workspace, on the go or in the field.

There’s also the requirement to keep high quality records for scrutiny, under the stress of securing funding and tax exemptions, to keep the operation sustainable and insurable. The marketing know-how, contact lists and IP need to be protected too.

Executive members come and go and critical things can fall behind without structured, transparent systems and processes that will enable someone else to easily step in and takeover.

You don’t expect anyone would steal from a not-for-profit but the reality is that many are vulnerable to fraud. In a weakening economy, fraud becomes even more probable. Not-For-Profits that are diligent about internal controls and financial processes can spot irregularities before they become a serious problem.

For effective risk management and collaboration, there needs to be a good basis of organisation. Fortunately, this can all be streamlined with cloud based apps that aren’t hard to use. Many are actually discounted and free to not-for-profits!

You might get some pushback. So it’s important to involve everyone in the decision making process, as well as the implementation and hands-on training. There’s support for this too.

By going about it in a planned manner, everyone will be saving so much more time and engaging better than they were before... back when they couldn’t find things!
