Description

To mark 100 years of community spirit, creativity, and volunteering, join a special morning tea during the Plunge Arts & Cultural Festival - a highlight of the Grafton CWA’s centenary celebrations!

Celebrate with past and present members, explore an exhibition showcasing CWA milestones, and hear about the year-long program of centenary events. Morning tea will be lovingly prepared by CWA members, featuring their famous award-winning cakes and scones.

As part of the celebrations, the CWA is also producing a cookbook of members’ favourite recipes—a true taste of Grafton’s community creativity! Don’t miss this chance to connect, celebrate, and be part of a century in the making.

About Us

  • Grafton CWA

    Grafton CWA

Today, Grafton CWA is a branch of more than 30 enthusiastic, community-spirited women of all ages. Members are actively involved in local events including the Grafton Jacaranda Festival, ANZAC Day marches and wreath-laying ceremonies. They regularly provide and serve Devonshire Teas at local TAFE markets and participate in The Land Cookery Competitions at branch, group and state levels. Members also enter CWA craft competitions at group and state level across a wide range of categories, including knitting, crocheting, embroidery, woodwork, patchwork, sewing, weaving, recycling and art. The photography competition themes for 2026 are Blue and At the Railway Station. Monthly meetings include discussion of rural issues led by the Agricultural and Environmental Branch Officer. Topics for 2026 include fauna (the glossy black cockatoo), flora (she oak), and environmental concerns such as escaped garden plants. Cultural issues at both local and district levels are also explored. Food sustainability was the focus of CWA Awareness Week in 2025. Each year, members study a country of interest. In 2026, the focus is Fiji, with the significant woman of note being Myra Juliet Farrell (1878–1957), artist and inventor. Grafton CWA is a volunteer organisation, raising funds through local events to support community groups including the Salvation Army, Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Grafton Show, Grafton High School, Women’s Refuge, Red Cross and court advocacy services for women. Funds are also directed towards medical research, with the current focus on pancreatic cancer, as well as support following natural disasters. Members collect goods for mother and baby support packs distributed locally and internationally. Renowned for their cooking skills, Grafton CWA is producing a centenary cookbook featuring members’ favourite recipes, expected to generate strong community interest upon publication. Participation in PLUNGE is a highlight of the centenary year celebrations. Grafton CWA meets on the second Friday of each month and holds handicraft mornings twice monthly on the second and fourth Mondays. We meet with and enjoy the friendship of other CWA branches in the valley and the North Coast. Our rooms in Market square adjacent to the Baby health centre are under repair and we are holding our meetings at the Grafton District Services Club and our handicraft meetings at the Salvation Army hall in Oliver Street as a temporary base.
