Event description

A day of drawing, printmaking, reflection and learning in connection with National Eucalypt Day with sensory drawing with Craig from Draw Plants Together, printmaking with Sheena Mathieson from Woman-made, and somatic โ€˜warm-inโ€™ with ASTER.

2 sessions back-to-back on Sunday April 6 at NECCHi Newlands in Coburg North on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country. Attend a single session or the full day :) Lunchtime plant sale with proceeds to The Torch

An opportunity to share connections with eucalypts and experiment with drawing and printmaking in a supportive and inclusive space

Eucalypts are beautiful plants. These lovely fragrant trees are widespread across the continent and are also unique to each place. They play fundamental roles ecologically and have been an important part of Aboriginal cultural landscapes over tens of thousands of years.

On Sunday April 6th, we'll come together to tune in and notice the beauty of eucalypts through drawing and printmaking, and reflect on our personal and subjective connections with these plants and their broader significance in sustaining life across the continent.

A little more about the workshops:

Morning session: sensory drawing with Craig

In this 2-hour workshop, explore drawing as a simple practice of sensing and relating thatโ€™s relaxing and enjoyable, and that bypasses critical and evaluative thinking :) Connect with the beautiful eucalypts surrounding NECCHi Newlands through drawing in the company of others in a supportive, inclusive and creative space.

Afternoon session: printmaking with Sheena

Printmaking comes in many guises. It is a great technique to free up, experiment and have fun.

Presented by skilled printmaker and facilitator Sheena Mathieson, you will be introduced to a mystery print technique and will create vibrant prints, using natural flora, combined with quality media.

Sheena is passionate in her belief that we are all creative individuals with different strengths, all capable of making beautiful and meaningful art given the right opportunities. She facilitates fun activities where participants are encouraged to create, share, learn new techniques and explore possibilities.
