Join the Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF) Materials Node as we bring you inside our laboratories to showcase the exciting new possibilities offered by functional printing. Rather than producing text and images, by combining traditional printing techniques together with specialised inks we can fabricate functional electronic devices ranging from solar panels to biosensors. Hosted by Dr. Ben Vaughan (Manager for the Newcastle Hub of the Materials Node) at the Centre for Organic Electronics, the tour will cover the roll-to-roll (R2R) systems that can print ink layers, deposit metal films, and encapsulate devices. In addition to an introduction to the technology involved in functional printing, the session will also delve into the unique challenges involved in translating laboratory scale innovations towards industry scale production processes.

In this tour you will learn about:

1. The world of functional printing and its ability to quickly and cheaply produce electronic devices at scale.

2. How we employ traditional printing techniques with specialised ink formulations to manufacture devices ranging from flexible solar cells to saliva based glucose sensors.

3. Case studies on scaling processes from the laboratory through to pilot scale ventures and beyond.

4. How ANFF capabilities at the Newcastle Hub, and more broadly through the national network, can be used to enable R&D for Australian businesses.
