Preregistering for the Fixit Clinic offers priority over walk-in attendees. Wait times may occur and walk-in attendees may experience slightly longer waits. Preregistration helps our volunteer fixers plan ahead and bring the right tools for the right fixes - giving your item the best chance at repair!

Bring a book, a friend, or walk around the event to help ease the waiting period until a fixer becomes available. We will have a designated event host that will call your name when a fixer is ready.

We often throw away things that stop working and buy new ones instead of fixing them. This creates a big problem for our environment because our landfills are filling up too quickly, and electronic waste (e-waste) is a significant source of pollution.

To help address this issue, we encourage you to learn how to fix things instead of throwing them away. Whether it's electronics, appliances, computers, toys, bicycles, clothes, or other items, please bring them to us for assessment, disassembly, and possible repair.

We'll provide a workspace, fixers, specialty tools, and guidance to help you take things apart and identify problems. Even if we cannot fix your item, you'll learn more about how it works and how it was made.

This is a family-friendly event, and we welcome children of all ages to come and learn with us.

FAQs

Does preregistering save a spot?

Preregistering for the Fix-It Clinic does not guarantee your spot in line, as we also accommodate walk-ins. However, preregistration helps our volunteer fixers plan ahead and bring the right tools for the right fixes—giving your item the best chance at repair! *Please note that no walk-ins will be accepted after 2:00 PM

How many items can I bring to the event?

Please bring ONE ITEM that needs to be repaired. We will try our best to solve the problem, but not every case is a success. Additional items brought in will be listed as walk-ins and serviced on a case-by-case basis.

What items do you NOT repair?

We try our best when it comes to repair, however, there are some items that the Fixit Clinic is not set up to take. One rule is if you cannot carry it in, please do not bring it.

How can I get up-to-date information?

LB Fixit Clinics are organized by the City of Long Beach, Algalita Marine Research and Education, LB Reuses, and other partner community organizations. The best way to stay up to date on all things Long Beach Fixit Clinics is by subscribing to

How can I volunteer with the LB Fixit Clinics?

LB Fixit Clinics is about neighbors helping neighbors. When you RSVP, you can choose to volunteer for the day. We'll send an email to all past volunteers about future Long Beach Fixit clinics you can volunteer at.

Does this cost money?

No. This event comes at no additional cost for the community. This event is to attend, but it is not a drop-off and fix event. Instead, it is a hands-on event where participants can learn how to repair their items with the help of our expert coaches.

What if my item needs a replacement part?

As this is an event available at no cost, we do not provide replacement parts. If your item requires additional or replacement parts, you will be responsible for any costs incurred. The attendees are responsible for purchasing and bringing the necessary parts on the day of the event.

Will you accept walk-ins?

Yes, we accept walk-ins, although walk-ins should expect longer wait times than those who preregistered.

Do you take donations of tools and supplies?

Oh boy, do we! If you have any old tools you don’t need, please email us a emily@algalita.org arrange drop-off.
