To complement the launch of Nowhere Fast, Paul O'Brien's photographs of Brisbane's punk/post-punk scene in the late 70s, you are invited to a discussion about the role of politics in the the making of this scene, and the relationship between these young people and the Qld police force. Bjelke-Petersen will no doubt be mentioned.

We will be joined by:

Mark Bracken - occupies an important place in the history of alternative culture and resistance as both an announcer at 4ZZZ and writer for the Cane Toad Times. Through the late 70s and early 80s Mark was one of the key voices that rallied the youth of Brisbane in their ongoing battle against authority.

Carole Ferrier - historian, academic and author has been teaching at the University of Queensland for nearly 50 years. She has written many artiles, chapters and books and is the author, with Ray Evans, of Radical Brisbane: and unruly history.

Jeanelle Hurst - works as an artist sustainably/non-destructively in the urban space while exploring projects across the physical and digital terrain, exploring the fault lines of gender, racial, and environmental violence.

Edwina Shaw - sees glimpses of friends in Paul's photos. She was the commissioning editor of Bjelke Blues, as well as fiction, memoir and screenplay. She is a teacher, writer and yoga instructor, and has a thriving business running writers' retreats.
