Event description

Nowhere Fast: Brisbane’s Punk and Post-punk Scene 1978-1982 featuring the photographs of Paul O’Brien, is a dark, dazzling, wild night-time ride into the Brisbane underground of the late 70s. The book of 85 black and white photographs, with essays by two musicians and members of the scene, Robert Forster and John Willsteed, is published by AndAlso Books.

The book will be launched at Woolloongabba Art Gallery (WAG) at 6pm on Friday, April 5. There will be an accompanying exhibition of a selection of photographs from the book from April 5-27 at WAG.

There will also be a panel discussion at 6pm on Friday, April 12 at WAG – Underground/Underbelly which will address politics and the police in Brisbane in the late 70s, featuring Matt Condon, Edwina Shaw, Carole Ferrier, and Mark Birskys.

This will be followed by live music at The Cave Inn at 8pm, featuring The Chordites and Scrap Metal, whose members (from The Hardons and Scrap Metal) are featured in the photographs.
