Nowra Wastewater Treatment Plant Open Day

Local Government Week is a chance for us to show you what we do! Shoalhaven Water is hosting a FREE 'Open Day' at the Nowra Wastewater Treatment Plant - Saturday, 3 August.  

Join us on a guided tour providing insight and discovery to how your wastewater is collected, treated and delivered back to the environment. We will explore why wastewater treatment is essential for maintaining a healthy environment and discuss how Shoalhaven Water is adopting environmentally responsible practices to support a circular economy in the Shoalhaven.

Nowra treatment plant was first commissioned in 1937, the first for the region at the time. A major upgrade was completed in late 2019. Latest improvements use innovative wastewater treatment technology (including filtration and two-stage disinfection) meeting current environmental and water recycling guidelines.

With an increased capacity, and linked via distribution pipelines to the Reclaimed Water Management Scheme (REMS), 90% of the output is now beneficially reused on local dairy farms and sporting facilities across the city.
