DARK SKIES IN AVI KWA AME NATIONAL MONUMENT
This year, we’re celebrating National Public Lands Day with an event all about stargazing and our beautiful dark night skies!
Join us on Saturday, September 20th at the Searchlight Senior Center for a special dark sky presentation, followed by a telescope viewing and chance to participate in light monitoring (part of the pathway for Avi Kwa Ame National Monument to become a designated Dark Sky Park).

6:30PM PRESENTATION: PLANTS, ANIMALS & DARK SKIES
Kim Garrison Means will be discussing the importance of dark night skies to plants and animals, as well as giving an overview on Avi Kwa Ame’s Dark Sky Project. Learn why dark skies matter so much and why they should be protected.
8:00PM - ASTRONOMY TALK & TELESCOPE VIEWING
We’ll be heading over to the Searchlight shooting range with Francisco Silva of the Las Vegas Astronomical Society for a guided telescope viewing.
9:00PM - LIGHT MONITORING IN TEAMS
Those interested can join teams that will be monitoring light levels in different places within the monument.
