This blockbuster concert brings togther some of the most beautiful and emotional music ever written. The program opens with Sibelius Finlandia, a powerful and patriotic work that evokes the beauty and spirit of Finland. This work is a true masterpiece of orchestral music and it is sure to set the tone for an unforgettable evening of music

Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto is one of the most popular and enduring works in the violin repertoire. This concerto showcases the virtuosity of the soloist and the beauty of the violin. It is a true tour de force of the instrument, and it will be performed by one of Australia's foremost violinists, Kristian Winther. As violin soloist, Kristian has appeared with the Sydney, Melbourne, Queensland, Christchurch and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras, the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Auckland Philharmonic, Gruppo Montebello and Orchestra Romantique. He has also toured extensively overseas, and has performed as concertmaster with many of the world's top orchestras.

The concert closes with Dvořák's Symphony No 8. Written in 1889, this work showcases Dvořák's mastery of orchestration and his deep understanding of the human soul. The symphony is filled with rich melodies, lush harmonies, and powerful rhythms that have cemented it as a firm concert favourite. The first movement, marked Allegro con brio, opens with a bright and energetic theme that sets the tone for the entire symphony. The second movement, marked Adagio, is slow and contemplative movement with many beautiful and evocative harmonies. The third movement is a lively and playful scherzo leading to the final fourth movement. Marked Allegro ma non troppo, it is a powerful and rousing finale that brings the symphony to a triumphant close.

Note: This concert was originally scheduled with Anna da Silva Chen as soloist. Anna has had to withdraw due to unforeseen circumstances. We are delighted instead to have secured Kristian Winther as soloist.
