Launch Event - NSW Regional Women Lawyers

NSW Regional Women Lawyers Inc (‘NRWL’) has been established by a group of energetic regional women lawyers who are working to ensure that those practising in regional, rural and remote (RRR) NSW have the same benefits and opportunities as their CBD Sydney counterparts. NRWL has already established chapters in the Central West, the Far West, the Illawarra, the Southern Highlands, the Hunter, the Central Coast and Western Sydney.

Our guest speakers, Professor Trish Mundy and Dr Natasha Cica, will discuss the contemporary challenges and opportunities of being a woman lawyer outside the magic triangle of Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra and how we all – wherever we practice – have the potential to influence justice-related change as never before.

Introductions by Professor Tania Sourdin, Dean and Head of School, Newcastle Law School and Michelle Meares, President of NRWL and Principal of Meares Law, Terrigal.

Professor Trish Mundy is the current Dean of the School of Law at the University of Wollongong and - prior to academia - practised for over 10 years in the community legal sector. One of her principal areas of academic work is the provision of legal services in and to rural, regional and remote communities and in 2017, she produced and co-authored The Place of Practice – Lawyering in Rural and Regional Australia (Federation Press).

Dr Natasha Cica originally trained as a lawyer at ANU obtained higher degrees in health law and worked as an academic at ANU. For the last (almost) 20 years, she has been working to design and deliver change and conducts her own business as a consultant developing the capacity of indviduals, teams and organisations. She has received recognition for her work in leadership training and innovation.
