General information

Travel instructions

There is no public transport that travels into Ihumātao, your best mode of travel is by car or via a service like Taxi or Uber. Please note that there is no access to the marae from Ihumātao Road end due to road closure at Kaitiaki Village. You can easily access the marae via Oruarangi road, from the Ascot road end. Entry instructions

Upon arrival, you will see our team outside the gates of the marae ready to scan your tickets and hand you your goody bags. Once you have scanned in and received your goody bag, please wait at the marae gate entrance for the pōwhiri. A kaikararanga and kaikōrero has been organised for your roopu.

After entry instructions

The pōwhiri will guide you into the wharenui of Makaurau Marae. Please remove your shoes at the door. Here is a simple waiata (song) you can learn in advance, to sing together as a waiata tautoko (supporting song) for your kaikōrero (speaker). Te Aroha Te Whakapono Me Te Rangimarie Tātou Tātou, e

Toilet location

There are two sets of toilets at Makaurau Marae. One set is inside the wharenui. The other is outside, opposite the dining room. This outside bathroom has an accessible toilet and shower.

Accessible parking

Accessible parking spaces are available down the marae driveway, to the right of the marae entrance, and to the rear of the premises. Please note this parking space is reserved for speakers, performers, crew, and those with vehicle mobility cards.
