Nullarbor Plain Fundraiser
Event description
The Nullarbor is in danger, and we need your help: Come to our fundraising event!Â
The Nullarbor is home to the largest arid limestone karst in the world. It has unique cave-dwelling animals that don't live anywhere else in the world, and it is full of beautiful and untouched caves. The Western Green Energy Hub project proposes solar panels and wind turbines on 15,000 square kilometers of this region. This development will destruct important parts of our beloved cave systems. The Energy Hub can move elsewhere, but the caves can't. Please come to our fundraiser to get involved, learn more about this issue, and help promote green energy in a location that won't destroy the Nullarbor caves.Â
We are thrilled to have Dr. Phil Maynard joining us to share insights from his recent expedition to the Nullarbor Caves. Dr. Phil Maynard has been caving since prehistoric times. He joined SUSS in 1989 and has caved across the whole of Australia and several other continents since that time. His caving experience on the Nullarbor dates from 2000 - a scientific collection expedition. On multiple trips to the Nullarbor he has been involved in exploration and mapping, diving, and biological research in the caves. His talk will offer a fascinating look into the unique features and importance of this incredible region. Come along and enjoy free food, listen to a good talk and donate to a good cause!
