Event description
About Maya Kamaty
Born on the island of La Réunion in the Indian Ocean, Maya Kamaty is reinventing maloya, a once-banned form of music born from the struggles of enslaved African and Malagasy peoples. The daughter of legendary musician Gilbert Pounia of Ziskakan, Maya fuses ancestral rhythms with modern soundscapes—melding Creole identity, acoustic instruments, and global electronic beats.
Her debut album Santié Papang made waves for its bold yet soulful interpretation of traditional maloya, earning her a place among the most compelling new voices in global music today.
