    Event description

Year after year we witness the the needless, painful deaths of horrible suffering of horses on racetracks in Australia. The reality is that one racehorse dies from racing-related injuries every 2.5 days.

This year the Deputy Leader of the Australian Greens, Dr Mehreen Faruqi, is hosting an in-person event on Melbourne Cup Day. Let’s reflect together on what we’ve achieved so far in the campaign to end these carnivals of cruelty, and consider what comes next.

Note: The ticket price of $15 will cover food, drink, and venue costs

Dr Mehreen Faruqi is Deputy Leader of the Australian Greens and Senator for NSW.

She became the first Muslim woman to sit in any Australian parliament when she joined the NSW Parliament in 2013. In 2018, she took her proudly feminist and anti-racist approach to Canberra when she joined the federal Senate. Mehreen’s recently published memoir and manifesto is called Too Migrant, Too Muslim, Too Loud.

Mehreen holds the Education, Anti-Racism, Animal Welfare, and International and Global Justice portfolios for the Greens.

A guest speaker will be announced soon.
