Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health (Nursing) February 2027

The Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health (Nursing) is for nurses and midwives wishing to develop detailed knowledge and specialist clinical skills in sexual and reproductive health.

Course overview

The course has a theory component and a supervised clinical attachment. The theory modules provide nurses with evidence-based information on a broad range of sexual and reproductive health topics. Nurses will explore the physiological, psychosocial, and environmental aspects of sexual and reproductive health using current research findings, clinical guidelines and the knowledge and experience of experts in the field.

Nurses who receive a Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health will have completed:

• Seven theoretical modules ($2042.70 inc. GST) 

• Supervised clinical attachment ($1,188 inc. GST to be paid at the time of booking the clinical attachment) See Supervised Clinical Attachment tab for further information. 

• Written assessments

Theory component modules

• Module 1: The Bare Essentials (one day face to face workshop course plus online learning package of approximately 14 hours)

• Module 2: Cervical Screening (two days face to face workshop plus online learning package of approximately 14 hours) Register for module 2 only

• Module 3: STI Clinical Management (online only) approximately 4 – 6 hours

• Module 4: People and Sex (online only) approximately 4 – 6 hours

• Module 5: Andrology Matters (online only) approximately 4 – 6 hours

• Module 6 & 7: Contraception and Communication (one day face to face workshop at SHQ)

Nurses can complete the theoretical modules in any order for the certificate as long as all seven are completed in the required timeframe. Alternately individual module(s) can be completed for your own learning needs, in this scenario you would not be undertaking a full certificate and would be issued statements of attendance/completion for each module attended/completed only. Nurses wanting the full certificate must complete all theory and supervised clinical attachment within two-years of starting the theory.

Entry Requirements/Eligibility

At least one-year post-registration experience is necessary for all nurses and midwives enrolling in the course.

Current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Previous experience in the area of women’s health, sexual and reproductive health or community health is an advantage but not a requirement.

Recognition of prior learning is available to nurses who seek credits for previous study and/or existing skills (fees apply). Some of the modules have pre course readings and/or activities. These are compulsory and make up the assessment for each module. When you have registered and paid for your modules you will receive information on how to access the online modules.
