Event description

They sold a 63 billion dollar lie. Everyone bought it.

Houston, 1992. Ambitious executive and mark-to-market expert Jeffrey Skilling has a new idea for energy company Enron: a modern organisation, dealing only in numbers, just like the big suits on Wall Street. When the current CEO leaves, he finds an opportunity to do just that. He’ll do anything for the top job, even toss aside his level-headed rival, Claudia Roe, just for a shot. And for a while, his idea works. Under the wing of company founder Ken Lay, Skilling quickly becomes President and Enron is suddenly the biggest company in America.

But as the stock value goes up, the company’s profits plummet. Soon, Enron's losing just as much money as they make. That's when Skilling’s slimy protege and Enron CFO Andy Fastow has the brilliant idea to commit corporate fraud, right under the public’s nose, on a scale wider than any other company has seen before. To hide the company’s debts by creating false companies and tricking potential investors into putting their money into them. Sounds easy, right?

With Enron, Emmy-award winner Lucy Prebble (Succession) tells the surreal, darkly hysterical and downright weird rise and fall of the company responsible for the largest bankruptcy in the world, that helped shape modern America and changed the financial landscape forever.

Runtime: 2h 30m (approx.) with a 15 minute interval

Content Warning: Enron contains strong coarse language, references to sex and sexual content, misogynistic language, references to death, loud noises, and flashing lights.
