Kayla (37) and Helena (60) have been friends for 22 years 💞
Kayla is a dancer, artist, embodiment practitioner & yoga teacher currently living on Gadigal and Bidjigal Country. She began her journey with dance, yoga and the creative arts as a young child and has lived and worked with and amongst a diverse range of communities internationally - studying, training, teaching, collaborating, making and performing extensively. Twenty years of diverse and rich professional experience in her field, as well as her personal life experience, have driven and informed her current practice.
Kayla’s movement sessions draw on her devoted study, training and embodied experience in dance, improvisation, somatic movement and expressive art modalities, eastern spiritual philosophy and practice including yoga, qigong, mindfulness, breath, meditation & restorative/rest practice, embodied drawing and writing, women’s studies and holistic health, community based practice and earth based feminine wisdom and healing arts.
Kayla is passionate about creating nurturing, gentle spaces to support you in returning to the body as home by slowing down, softening and returning to more safety, ease and liberation in and through the body.
Befriending and cultivating a relationship of respect, reverence, trust and care with your body and inner world, Kayla supports you to journey somatically towards remembering and reclaiming your innate intelligence, inner knowing, healing capacity and alchemical wisdom.
Through nervous system tending, re-awakening the senses, embodied presence and curiosity and liberating your movement from the inside out, Kayla guides you in igniting and connecting more deeply to your authentic expression, creativity, power, joy, health/vitality and purpose.
Kaylas work is anchored in creating more space and capacity for wholeness, connection and right relationship to our bodies, each other and the natural world, as a way of cultivating harmony within and without.
AND
Helena is a mother, dancer, yoga student and teacher, meditator, designer, stylist and buyer.
Helena started Wollombi Yoga in the beautiful Wollombi Valley Darkinjung country with a deep desire to build a community where everyone could feel welcome, safe, accepted, and most importantly nurtured. She is proud of the Wollombi Yoga community which includes practitioners ranging from age six to seventy plus years young.
Since starting Wollombi Yoga in 2019 she has also facilitated and co created events such as sound healing with movement - Sonic Yin, women’s circles, meditation events, talks and workshops.
A spiritual seeker for most of her life, she found yoga brought her back “home”.
With over 1000 hours of yoga and related trainings, teachings and continuing education behind her, she weaves this and her love of spiritualism, traditional Chinese medicine and the energy meridians into her somatic based style classes. Coupled with an interest in breath awareness movement and alignment, she encourages students to move and adjust their own bodies so it feels right and safe for them, encouraging students to “feel” the yoga.
