BLAKBOI Indigenous singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist loops decks, drums, keys, guitars, voice and dij. Visual artist and activist, surfer and poet. Blakboi will change the way you see the world. Blakboi (Tom Avery) is a young man from the Gumilaroi peoples of central NSW now living on the Bundjalung Nation around the Byron Bay / Lismore area. His father (Tom Avery) is a renowned Indigenous artist and surfer. His mother (Jennifer Avery) a talented singer/guitarist and full blood Maori from the Taranaki Province of New Zealand. Blakboi music breaks boundaries for singer/songwriters. Folk, rock, reggae, disco, dance , trance, pop and soul. Hip hop, rap, accapella attack your senses, colours and shapes created for all tastes. Influences include RHCP, The Beatles, The Herd, Fat Freddy’s Drop. Blakboi has played alongside Archie Roach, Xavier Rudd, John Butler, Yung Warriors, Wolfmother and Dubmarine. Russ Jalakai weaves beats, keys and guitar in his unique live looping dub reggae show. Featuring original songs, acoustic ballads and roots reggae gentle grooves to uplift the soul and relax the mind. Russ cultivates a unique sound and approach to songwriting aiming to impart a peaceful sense of power to his audience.
