Event description

The NZMASP conference is a yearly event run for and by postgraduate students in Mathematics and Statistics across all New Zealand universities. The main purpose is to share research and build long-lasting relationships and professional collaborations.

In addition to this Humanitix form you must also complete the Google Form link found either in the registration email or the NZMASP website.

If you are buying tickets on behalf of someone else, please select the "email tickets to participants" option at the buyer information stage of checkout, or forward them the tickets once checkout is complete.

Talks

All participants are expected to give a 15 minutes presentation and have the opportunity to win prizes.

Please note that your presentation does not have to be about your current research project. You may give a presentation on a topic other than your research area, provided that the content is relevant and appropriate for the audience.

Your final presentation title and abstract must be submitted via the aforementioned Google Form by the 1st of November. This is a hard deadline as the committee needs time to review the submissions and create a programme.

Please note that any submission after the deadline will not be included in the conference programme.

Plenary speakers

We are excited to announce our international lineup for this year's plenary speakers

  • Prof. Astrid an Huef (Victoria University of Wellington)

  • Prof. Jodie Hunter (Massey University)

  • Dr. Andrew Keane (University College Cork)

  • Dr. Dion O'Neale (Nicholson Consulting)

  • Dr. Ben Stevenson (University of Auckland)

Eligibility

Any postgraduate student at a tertiary institution in New Zealand who works with mathematics or statistics is eligible to register. We will ask for some details of your programme and institution at checkout. We do want to encourage a diverse community of attendees, so please get in touch if you are unsure if you are eligible.

Evening events

There will be two social events which we strongly encourage our attendees to participate.

The first one is an icebreaker, informal night hosted in the early evening of the first day of the conference (Tuesday 18th of November) at OGH (the University's Common Rom Club) from 5pm.

The second event is a boardgame + quiz night at Dice & Fork, taking place on Thursday 20th of November from 6pm.

Accommodation and Venue

Students coming from outside of Auckland will be provided with accomodation at the Attic Backpackers, which is conveniently located right in the heart of the city and just a short 7-minute walk from the conference venue. Check-ins will be available from the afternoon of Monday 18th while check-outs are scheduled for Friday 21st in the morning - please note that the accommodation is NOT provided for the Friday night. You can register for accommodation using the Google Form.

The conference will be held in the Science Centre (building 303) at the University of Auckland's city campus (38 Princess Street, Auckland Central, 1010) in lecture theatres 101 and 102. We will provide morning and afternoon tea and coffee breaks as well as on-campus lunches. Participants are responsible for organising their own dinner, other than at the social event on Thursday night.

Transport

You are responsible for providing your own transport to the conference venue, and accommodation, if applicable. We will provide details on recommended public transport options in our programme.

Payment and personal details

We will request some of your details at the checkout when you purchase your ticket for the conference.

We hope everyone has financial support from their supervisor, department or another source in order to attend. Please talk with them before buying your ticket to confirm that they can reimburse you once you provide a receipt for your ticket. If this system will not work for them or if you are not able to find funding to attend, then please get in contact with us. Depending on various factors we may be able to offer some financial support to cover the registration fee. If you require financial support please contact us!
