The University of Waikato is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the 2021 New Zealand Marine Sciences Society Conference in Tauranga Moana. The conference is scheduled for 5-8 July at the University’s new campus in the Tauranga CBD, under the theme "Titiro whakamuri, kōkiri whakamua" (looking back to move forward).

The conference will commence at 1:30pm Monday 5 July and finish with a not-to-be-missed conference dinner and awards ceremony on the evening of Thursday 8 July.

Please note that your full conference registration includes a 12 month membership to the the New Zealand Marine Sciences Society and a conference dinner ticket. Additional dinner tickets can be purchased alongside your registration.

Refund policy

Holding a conference in the time of COVID is a risky undertaking. A last minute cancellation or postponement is a very real possibility that could leave the Society with significant bills to pay. The only way that we have been able to move ahead with this year’s conference is through limiting the event’s financial exposure and through sharing the risks between the Society, sponsors and conference delegates. In the event of a short notice, cancellation there will be fixed costs that the Society will have to cover, and as such, we will only be able to offer a 50% refund of your registration fees. If the conference is cancelled, we will organise an online event in its place at a later date.
