This training aligns to Capability 9 (Delivering holistic and collaborative assessment and care planning) of the Victorian Mental Health & Wellbeing Workforce Capability Framework.

This interactive workshop presents a Model of Human Occupation based approach to occupational formulation and goal setting. This involves synthesising assessment information to present the person’s occupational identity and occupational competence to support identification of key occupational issues which form the basis for developing occupational goals and therapy plans.

Topics covered: what is occupational formulation; why develop a formulation; features & structure of occupational formulation; the importance of collaboration; negotiating measurable occupational goals; implementing occupational formulation in practice. Participants will have the opportunity to begin developing an occupational formulation.

Lorrae Mynard - Occupational Therapy Educator (Forensicare) | Clinical Associate (Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science, Swinburne University) | PhD Candidate (Monash University)

Lorrae is passionate about keeping occupation at the heart of occupational therapy. She has worked in a variety of adult mental health settings in Australia, Canada and the UK and is presently a lead occupational therapist at Forensicare in Melbourne, chairperson of the Australasian Forensic Occupational Therapy Network and a doctoral candidate with Monash University where her research is focused on occupational formulation.

Lorrae was named Occupational Therapist of the year in the Australian Allied Health Awards, held in October 2023.

Danielle Ashley - Occupational Therapy Clinical Educator (Forensicare)

Dani Ashley is an occupational therapy educator with over 18 years' experience working as an occupational therapist in the forensic mental health field, including working with youth offenders, those with cognitive impairment as well as working in prison-based mental health services. Dani has her Master of Advanced Occupational Therapy and is passionate about building practice-based evidence.
