Volvo Ocean Lovers Festival - Ocean Lovers Talks - VR SHIPWRECKS
Event description
OCEAN LOVERS TALKS - VR SHIPWRECK DIVES
Dive into an innovative talk with Archeologist James Hunter, Curator of Naval Heritage and Archaeology at the Australian National Maritime Museum, to uncover how scientists are using virtual reality technology to go deep underwater to explore shipwrecks and discover their mysteries.
James loves maritime and underwater archaeology because it provides a unique opportunity to study sites that are often incredibly well preserved, and—in the case of shipwrecks—capture a specific moment in time and there is also something indescribably special about being surrounded by, and interacting with, the underwater world. "The ability to physically touch and connect with the past while also being literally immersed in the present is a feeling like no other", he says.
WHERE? High Tide Room, Bondi Pavilion
WHEN?  1 pm - 1.15 pm Saturday 23rd March 2024
