In recent years, the mysterious and mesmerising octopus has captured the world’s imagination sparking a global conversation about intelligence and emotion. Join film-makers and scientists sharing their experiences interacting with these masters of camouflage and problem-solving.

With a lifelong passion for science and natural history, Colette has produced hundreds of hours of non-fiction programs for National Geographic/Disney+, Netflix, BBC, PBS, ABC, SBS, Animal Planet, ARTE and others, and has been nominated for two PrimeTime Emmy Awards. She is Managing Director of Sydney-based SeaLight Pictures, known for such series as Life in Colour with David Attenborough and Secrets of the Octopus.

Adam is an award-winning producer, director and cinematographer for science and natural history programmes for National Geographic/Disney+, the BBC, PBS-NOVA, ABC Australia, Discovery, Arte France, and others. 

Dr Alex Schnell, National Geographic Explorer; University of Cambridge Visiting Scholar

Dr. Alex Schnell, National Geographic Explorer and comparative psychologist, explores marine animal cognition. Her research on cephalopod sentience influenced UK law, and she shares ocean stories through science, media, and conservation. 

Professor Peter Godfrey-Smith (University of Sydney)

Peter Godfrey-Smith is a History and Philosophy of Science professor at the University of Sydney, and the author of Other Minds: The Octopus and the Evolution of Intelligent Life.
