Welcome to our meetings for 2023, where we can connect and share with the amazing women of the Nambucca Valley.

Heather is a Death Doula, come and join us to find out more about this important role and how this benefits our community.

A death doula (also sometimes called end-of-life Doula) is a trained non-medical, professional who provides support, education, compassion and resources for individuals nearing death and their loved ones, family and friends. This allows the individual to have their final journey align with their personal wishes. While some Doulas may be on call, others may do overnight care or regular scheduled visits. The death doula accompanies and provides comfort for the dying person, and be a support for the final journey.

A Death Doula foster relationships with individuals and families beyond a diagnosis and strive to minimize their loneliness and isolation through death, a role that is often too difficult to be played by close family members and friends.

They hold space for the dying; this means they are willing to walk alongside a person through the whole journey- planning pre diagnosis and through living with their illness, through palliative care, the active dying stage, death and funeral support into bereavement. They do this without judgement, on the path they choose. They assist to preserve quality of life and dignity up to and beyond the end of life.
