Event description

We are truly spoilt at Rainbow Holstein Book Club this month... 😱 At our gathering on the 30th October at 6pm, we will be discussing TWO chosen titles! The Safekeep by Yael van der Wouden and My Life in Sea Creatures by Sabrina Imbler. 🥳

🩵 The Safekeep is Van der Wouden’s debut novel; a historical fiction tale set in the Dutch countryside in summer, 1961. 🏡 In post-war Overijssel, Isabel lives a life of routine and discipline, alone in her late mother’s home. Her brother deposits his girlfriend Eva to stay with Isabel for the season. ☀️ The two women’s opposite personalities clash in the summer heat. A story of paranoia, mystery, infatuation, and sensuality follows. Things are not what they seem with Eva… and with the world still at war…  Artfully plotted, provocative, punched with desire and obsession. We hope you enjoy this clever, twisted novel! 🩷🪻

🐚 Written by science journalist Sabrina Imbler, My Life in Sea Creatures takes our book club to new realms of genre; a stunning combination of natural history and biography. 🌊 The readers are taken on a journey through nature, the ocean, and the human world, where the wonders of marine biology are interwoven with the author's exploration of their own identity as a queer, non-binary mixed-race writer. Endangered sea life, marginalisation, survival; fascination, mystery, awe. 🐙🧡💙

Our next meeting will be on Thursday 30th of October. Come along for a cozy chat about the book, about life, and about what it means to be ...

Hope to see you there!
