Event description
Ahoy, little adventurers! Join us to celebrate Susea Spray's newest A Big Blue Boat adventure, A Day on the Brine! Meet Susea, hear a special reading, get your book signed, and enjoy a fun take-home activity.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
With the wind in her hair and the salt tickling her nose, a captain heads out for a day on the brine. She is hungry, throws out her fishing line and waits ...
From sundown to sunset, the captain discovers a world where albatross soar and whales play. An ecosystem at play in the ocean’s endless blue.
Like the tide, there is an ebb and flow to life out on the brine and Emma Stuart’s stunning illustrations bring to life this magical rhyming tale.
Set on the west coast of Australia, if you have a fascination with boats, sea life and the ocean, you’ll love this award-winning sequel to a Big Blue Boat.
A REVIEW OF A DAY ON THE BRINE:
'Our oceans are home to many living creatures and a place of exploration, lifestyle and recreation for humans. Each living creature sees and experiences this environment from their own perspective, whether it be a bird in the sky, a fish or whale in the sea or a human on a boat. Susea Spray captures the interplay between the members of this ecosystem in a fun and engaging way so that the target audience, young readers, can imagine how life looks and events unfold beyond the shores of our lands. These interplays are captured beautifully by the charming watercolour illustrations that the illustrator, Emma Stuart contributes. The Glossary and interactive sections at the end add further to the educational value of this delightful children’s book.'

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
A retired classroom teacher and professional photographer, author Susea Spray now lives the life of a cruising sailor. She and her husband don’t have a brick-and-mortar house. Instead, their home is a traditional big, blue sailing boat. During the time of Covid and its restrictions, unable to sail, Susea was at last able to put pen to paper and the rhythmic A Big Blue Boat series was born!
An avid reader who has always written in one form or another, Susea is now sharing her love of language and sea with young and old, through the eyes of a big blue boat and a young girl, the Captain. Her first book, A Big Blue Boat, was the 2022 Literary Titan Silver Award winner, and a 2022 and 2021 finalist in the Page Turner Awards.
