October 2026 School Holiday Programme: Puppet Party and Junk Orchestra
Description
Our beloved school holiday programme is back for October, with 2 great themes to spark imagination and curiosity. Come to one day of the theme or all three!
Theme for week 1: Puppet Party
The creative art of puppetry is alive and well at Noughty Wasters... Come hang out with our resident puppets and create your own!
This week we'll be crafting different types of puppets out of discarded materials, using the sewing machine, carpentry skills, craft materials and our imaginations to bring our creations to life.
Together we'll construct a puppet theatre, props, and storylines, concluding with a performance on the 3rd day.
Theme for week 2: Junk Orchestra
Join Noughty Wasters and the electrical experts at Local Making to create a Junk Orchestra!
Make your own DIY electronic and acoustic instruments using junk and salvaged materials, then learn to play them together as a group.
Once the orchestra is assembled, weather allowing, we’ll take it out into the neighbourhood for performances, recitals and Junk Orchestra busking around Devonport town centre!
Additional Info:
Led by passionate educators, this STEAM programme (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) offers low ratios for a personalised educational experience.
Our programmes offer the opportunity to safely learn new skills and appropriate use of tools, along with zero waste practices and principles.
Don't worry, we're still a play-based programme, so while your children will be encouraged and supported to engage with the theme, they will be respected if they choose to follow other interests.
We'll split our time between the indoor and outdoor spaces depending on the weather and children's interests.
