Description

Recover is a six-week livestream, online course for people experiencing chronic stress, depletion, burnout, and/or secondary stress.

This is a trauma-informed and mental health aware course that integrates neuroscience, nervous system regulation, and evidence-based approaches to stress and burnout recovery.

Course facilitator

This course is facilitated by Jo Buick. Jo (she/her) is the founder and director of the non-profit organisation Collective Being, and the newly launched service Taking Good Care. For the past 17 years, Jo has worked across education, mental health and social justice as a strategist, educator, non-profit founder, and somatic practitioner. Jo is especially dedicated to practitioner care and sustainable work in trauma-exposed settings.

What to expect

This course acknowledges the systemic and structural conditions that cause care and work-related stress, and does not individualise or blame practitioners for their experiences. Rather, practices, tools, and techniques are shared that can be adapted for the unique contexts, needs, and desires of participants.

By the end of six weeks, you will have:

  • An understanding of what your body and nervous system have been responding to;

  • Practical tools for regulation and recovery;

  • A clearer sense of what sustainable practice looks like for you;

  • A framework for self-advocacy if change is required within your work, practice or life; and

  • A small group of peers who share and understand your lived experience.

Who this is for

  • Practitioners in any care or relational sector experiencing burnout, chronic stress, or depletion - including healthcare, education, community services, social services, spiritual care, wellbeing work and therapeutic work

  • Leaders and managers carrying both their own stress and their teams

  • Anyone who has tried conventional approaches (EAP, team days, sleep hygiene practices, mindfulness apps) and found they don't touch what's needed

  • Carers are also very welcome

How the course runs

  • Six weekly evening sessions, delivered live online via Zoom in a small group format.

  • Sessions are 1.5 hours each.

  • Sessions are designed to be immersive environments that blend information with embodied practice and reflective work.

  • Access to an accompanying learning platform, which will host session recordings, PDF guides to practices, and additional resources and science.

  • Live attendance is encouraged, as shared learning is a core part of the experience. However, in recognition of the impacts of chronic stress on capacity, sessions will be recorded.
