OFA
Event description
Following the success of Ofa’s recent matinee show on February 15, audiences were left wanting more from this captivating new project—simply known as OFA.
A longtime force in the West End music scene, Ofa Fanaika is well known for her work organising CHURCH gigs that brought the community together, hosting interactive improv jams with Brisbane’s finest musicians at the Rumpus Room and The Bearded Lady from spanning over five years.
In 2022, Ofa moved to the Sunshine Coast falling in love and following her heart and a much needed sea change, a year later, she suffered the unimaginable loss of her son, Micah, who was tragically hit by a car in Brisbane’s north. In the wake of grief, she turned to the sanctity of songwriting—reflecting, healing, and reshaping her artistry.
Though she has mostly remained a self-proclaimed recluse, making occasional appearances with her longtime band family, Chocolate Strings, Ofa has spent the past three years crafting new material with close friends Chris McKelliget (Captain Dreamboat, Chocolate Strings) and Kasper Skou (Chocolate Strings, Schoolfight), with the recent addition of Paul Watson ( Dubmarine, The New Buzz)
on lead guitar.
Ofa re-emerges with a new sound—a stripped-back performance that showcases the raw power of her vocals and songwriting. Akin to the likes of Michael Kiwanuka and Tracy Chapman, Ofa invites her audience into an intimate journey through her inner world.
More of a conversation than a show, and one not to be missed.
