No meals or equipment are provided.

This class is strenuous. It requires 5 or more miles of walking which may include several hours outdoors in the elements, significant elevation gain, and variable terrain. You will need personal equipment.

Instructor De Karlen: Previously an Interpretative Park Ranger in Yosemite National Park, I am also a Certified California Naturalist (UCR), Certified Interpretative Guide (National Association of Interpretation), and Certified Master Joshua Tree National Park Naturalist (Desert Institute). I have a master's degree in public administration from California State University, San Bernardino and currently serve as La Quinta's representative on the Trails Management Subcommittee of the Coachella Valley Conservation Commission. My passion is public lands protection, conservation, and stewardship for current and future generations, and I love sharing the uniqueness and wonders of Joshua Tree National Park through Desert Institute's hiking and interpretative classes.
