Old Plates Birthday Week! Sunday 17th with King Canoe

Everybody's favourite bar/record store Old Plates is celebrating their 3rd birthday with a full week of live music and revelry. Starting Monday August 11th, seven of Melbourne's finest bands are playing intimate shows across the week, with each night recorded by audio wizard Myles Mumford (Rolling Stock Recording Rooms).   The recordings will then be turned into 7 x 7" records, the beginning of Old Plates as a record label. Each night will have very limited tickets available, a rare opportunity to experience incredible bands in an intimate setting and actually be a part of the recording.  Applaud and you'll be a part of the 7" for all posterity!  

Sunday afternoon we cool it out with Melbourne's premier reggae/soul group King Canoe, an eight-piece curation of the finest instrumental musicians in Australia. Influenced by 60s Jamaican vintage sounds, members have played with the world’s biggest names in music from The Congos to Mavis Staples, Prince Alla to Maceo Parker, Syl Johnson to Femi Kuti, and individually they perform across many Melbourne soul and funk ensembles including The Putbacks, The Meltdown, The Bamboos and Joelistics.
