the Olde Guard

the Olde Guard started in 2023 as a solo project of Chris Lonon, (current member of Bed Signs and formerly of Sea of Cortez, Sam the Lion, and First Night on Earth).  Chris’s only goal at the time was to create a full-length solo LP.  He accomplished this goal with a little help from his friends, Producer/knob twiddler/Engineer Tracey Schröeder, (Schröederhaüs Studio) and master of the tasteful guitar solo and all things rock-n-roll, Bruce Hazel, (current member of Temperance League). The finished 8 song LP “At the Lighthouse” was released on Mint City Records in March of 2024.

Since then, even more friends from the Charlotte music scene agreed to help Chris put together a live show, because the songs turned out to be pretty good and people generally seemed to like them.  Hence “the Olde Guard” as a proper 5-piece band was born, and now consists of Wes Grasty (formerly of Laburnum, First Night on Earth), Mike Kenerley (TBD Brass band, formerly of Jolene, and The Louddermilks), Kyle Carinelli (formerly of Toleman Randall) and Stephen Yount (formerly of First Night on Earth). They are hard at work on new material and hope to release a 2nd LP in 2025.

This piano and voice pairing featuring Bruce Hazel (Temperance League) and John William Harrell (Hectorina) is part Vegas crooner, part carnival barker and all seductive melodies.

Drawing from the likes of Randy Newman, Harry Nilsson, Warren Zevon, Tom Waits, Nick Cave and Burt Bacharach, this act is an exciting new musical partnership.
