Omniversal Hum welcomes UK Hyperdub artist and NTS resident aya to Miscellania for a night of abstract electronics, rhythmic noise and expanded voice work. Support from Cassius Select, Von Adamas + Emelyne.

aya is actually a real person from the north of England. Her work is primarily concerned with the transfigurative power of experience and memory on the physical body. aya’s heavily anticipated debut LP ‘im hole’ is set for release with Hyperdub on October 22nd. she has previously released music with Local Action, 2BReal, Tri Angle Records, Astral Plane Recordings and Wisdom Teeth. She co-runs the label YCO with BFTT, a home things for all things Yes Come On. Asides from her philanthropic work as self-proclaimed First Lady of the Bootleg, aya is in her 3rd year of monthly radio residency with NTS, whom she loves with her whole heart.

Cassius Select aka Lavurn Lee is a musician, producer and DJ from the inner suburbs of Toronto, Canada. He has also lived and worked in Sydney, Hong Kong and Berlin. His productions combine rhythmic templates, textures and vocal fragments from across the electronic music spectrum, including hip-hop, grime, dubstep, garage, dancehall, musique concrete, ambient and RnB.

Over a series of releases on cult labels such as Unknown to the Unknown, Accidental Jnr, Hypercolour, Bonoffee Pies, Raw Basics and Bruk Records he has established a unique voice in contemporary dance music that straddles a series of binaries: uncompromising yet functional, alienating yet soulful, innovative yet rhythmically accessible. His side projects include collaborations with lauded Australian artist VV Pete and American vocalist Daemon, his RnB aliases Guerre and Fake, and BV (alongside Marcus Whale and DJ Plead).

Von Adamas is a musical project and artist persona curated by music producer and composer Diamond Lee. His practice hones in on production, composition and live performances based on improvisation. Von Adamas is able to use sound as an engagement with spirituality, exploring religions and beliefs whilst contextualising within the contemporary and internet age. In constant search for identity, the work of Von Adamas encompasses vagueness and embraces feelings that conveys an astronomical sense that are compelling and confronting.

Interested in conveying presence and deep listening through personal context and experience, Von Adamas manifests the themes through ambiences, soundscapes, textures and rhythmic pulse within the realms of electronics and alteration of the voice.

Emelyne will warm the vibe with DJ sets before and between acts with her signature burning eclecticism and ear-to-the-ground currency.
