Canti di Guerra, di Lavoro e d’Amore (Silvia Tarozzi & Deborah Walker)

Silvia Tarozzi (voice and violin) & Deborah Walker (voice and cello) present their recent collaboration "Canti di Guerra, di Lavoro e d’Amore" (songs of war, work and love). The work is a contemporary re-interpretation of female folksongs of northern Italy. The duo have worked for several years on transcriptions and reinterpretations of traditional folksongs from their birthplace, the Emilia-Romagna region in Italy. The songs come from the first decades of the twentieth century (some even older) and from the period of the Second World War. The melodies and especially the lyrics have been transformed over time through oral transmission and adapted to different social, working and historical contexts.

Silvia Tarozzi & Deborah Walker share a friendship that evolves into a long-lasting artistic partnership around improvisation and contemporary experimental creation. For almost 20 years they have explored different musical forms working with composers and improvisers, featuring other musicians as Philip Corner, Rhodri Davies, Eyvind Kang, Nathalie Forget, Frantz Loriot and Alex Bruck. Their music is characterized by a profound interplay, a focus on the acoustic qualities of the sound of their instruments and the search for new possibilities in tunings, gestures and sound. Their long collaboration with composers Éliane Radigue, Pascale Criton and Philip Corner has led to the creation of numerous and highly reputable works.
