Want to build a career in photography, but not sure what the actual path looks like?

This session is built to give you a clearer, more honest view of how the stills industry works.

Georges Cameras, Sony and LUNAR Studios are coming together for a new event series designed to help photographers and emerging image makers build real momentum. For our first session, we’re bringing together voices from across the industry to talk about what it takes to get booked, build trust, work with brands, understand briefs and create stills work that has a place beyond your own feed.

Our Panel

Charlotte Rose
Head Visuals Producer & Bookings Editor for Vogue Australia

Laura Watson
Head of Creative Marketing for Gap Australia

Kate Sullivan
Producer & Agent at Artist Group

Together, they bring insight from editorial, fashion, commercial production, brand campaigns, talent representation and the realities of getting photographers into the right rooms.

This is not a technical deep dive. It is a practical, career-focused conversation for photographers who want clarity.

We’ll talk about what clients, brands, agencies, editors and producers actually need from photographers now. What makes someone feel ready for commercial work. What makes a portfolio useful. What helps people get booked. What slows people down. And what photographers often misunderstand about the industry they’re trying to enter.

Whether you’re a hobbyist trying to turn photography into paid work, an emerging photographer trying to find your lane, or someone already shooting but unsure what the next step looks like, this session is designed to help you leave with a more useful direction.

What you’ll learn

You’ll walk away with a stronger understanding of:

What clients, brands, agencies and editors look for in photographers
What makes a stills portfolio feel commercially useful
How photographers can improve their chances of getting booked
The difference between making nice images and solving a brief
How editorial, commercial and brand photography are changing
What producers and agents notice when looking at new talent
Common mistakes that make photographers harder to trust or book
What you should be building if you want bigger opportunities

How the night runs

We’ll start with a short welcome and intro to the Georges x Sony x LUNAR Studios series, then move into a relaxed panel conversation with our guest speakers.

The focus will be on honest, practical insight: how the stills industry works, what people are looking for, and what emerging photographers can do to move forward with more intention.

There will be time to mingle, meet other photographers and get hands-on with selected Sony gear throughout the evening.

We’ll finish with an open Q&A, so bring your real questions about getting booked, building a stronger portfolio, approaching clients, understanding briefs, assisting, representation, social media, commercial work or finding your next step.

What to expect

This is a relaxed, community-focused evening at LUNAR Studios, one of Sydney’s leading spaces for commercial image-making.

Expect honest conversation, useful industry insight, time to meet other creatives and a chance to hear directly from people who sit behind the scenes of real editorial, fashion and commercial photography.

Why come?

Because “just keep shooting” is not a career plan.

If you want to move forward, you need to understand the expectations of the industry, the people who shape the work, and what actually makes a photographer useful beyond the image itself.

This session is designed to help you cut through the noise and leave with a clearer sense of what to build next.
